Surprise Wedding at the Storys Building in Toronto
It’s not very often you have a couple who wants a surprise wedding, so when Sabrina and Josh told me their great idea, I was totally onboard! So the plan was to have all of their close friends and family come to the Storys building in Toronto to celebrate Josh’s 40th birthday. They would show up, have a few drinks and Josh would have a speech thanking their guests for attending when in fact, he’ll be announcing they’re getting married and the wedding is TODAY! You can imagine the shock and excitement in the room, it was definitely a wedding to remember!
Sabrina wore a beautiful lace and flowy dress from Kleinfield, we paired her dress with a classic white and blush bouquet. She loved anemones so we made sure to add these beautiful delicate blooms into her bouquet. We also included ivory majolica spray roses, astrantia and white ranunculus. Josh complemented her bouquet with a majolica spray rose boutonniere.
Her sweet bridesmaids braved the cold in beautiful navy blue gowns. We made sure we kept their bouquets fresh and airy with a variety of greenery with an addition of astrantia blooms. The greenery bouquets was a nice contrast against the navy bridesmaid dresses, it also made sure that the bride’s bouquet was the star of the show.
It was important to have warm and cozy areas for their guests to mingle and enjoy the night. So throughout the venue, we made sure to add plenty of candles and greenery to create an inviting ambiance.
This ceremony showpiece was a favourite among the couple and their guests. This asymmetrical arch was constructed with a mix of dried and permanents flowers, it was a perfect backdrop for Sabrina and Josh to exchange their vows.
After the ceremony, the guests left for cocktails and we flipped the space to this gorgeous set up. They had opted in for our Event Design Service, so we had full design control in executing their wedding look. As a base, we selected a warm toned table linen and paired it with acacia wood charger plates. We didn’t want to overcrowd the table, so a light greenery of ruscus along with strategically placed bud vases were placed on the table. To avoid the table setting looking flat, we added in ivory tapered candles to create height and interest to the venue. We think it’s important to add something special for each guest, so a nice personal touch was to have each guest was welcomed with their own personalized calligraphy placed card.
This surprise wedding at the Storys Building in Toronto was such a pleasure being a part of. We wish Sabrina and Josh all the best on their future together!
