What is Event Design?
You’re surfing the internet looking for vendors to help you with your wedding, and you notice this term “event design” used a lot on their websites or job titles. Sounds great; but what does it actually mean, and do you need it for your wedding? Then there’s event designers, wedding planners, and venue coordinators; who all say they can design your wedding, but which is right for you? Trying to navigate which vendor is right for your wedding can be overwhelming, so we wrote this blog post to help bring you some clarity.
what is event design?
It’s a job title in the wedding industry that a lot of vendors like to use, but it’s not always explained as to what it actually means and what it involves. An event designer’s sole responsibility is to design and oversee the aesthetic, (a.k.a look), and feel of your wedding. It may sound simple, but a truly designed wedding takes many layers of detail and collaboration of multiple wedding creatives.

An event designer will help you refine your colour palette, and devise an optimal floor plan for your ceremony and reception. They will also select the best linens, furniture, and lighting to create the feeling you want your guests to experience. They will curate other wedding creatives like stationers, cake designers, floral designers, just to name a few.
To illustrate the role of an event designer, you can compare it to a conductor of an orchestra. A conductor develops a vision of how they want a piece of music to sound, and then transmits that vision to 80 or 100 trained musicians for the audience to enjoy.
At BLUUMBLVD, we will discuss what your dream wedding looks like to you, and then begin to refine or expand on that concept. Next, we will decipher that design idea to approximately 5-to-10 different vendors to complete your wedding aesthetic. We try not to mimic the most popular Pinterest trend, but will hone in on your personality as a couple, take into account your needs, and makes sure it’s pairs well with your venue. This results in the ultimate goal: an event that is unique to you.

which is right for YOU?
In your research, you’ve seen different wedding professionals offering to help you design your wedding. They may be a wedding planner, an event designer or a venue coordinator, but which is right for you?
While some wedding planners may offer design services, their primary responsibility is to manage the logistics of your wedding. Having a wedding planner ensuring your wedding day runs smoothly is a great asset. But if you are confident in your organizational skills but lack creativity, an event designer is right for you. Wedding florists who are also event designers are constantly envisioning the environment the flowers will be in, and know what design elements will enhance the beauty of the flowers. As a wedding florist and event designer, we are constantly thinking of colour combinations, and have mastered the skill of creating the appropriate colour palettes that emit the specific feeling and style you seek.
do I need an event designer for my wedding?

At the end of the day, you make an investment to have someone design beautiful flowers for your special day; it’s a shame though, when it’s placed on table linens that are of poor quality, too short, or the wrong colour!
